SKILLS AND TRAINING – MUST HAVES

In view of the challenge of providing decent [1] and inclusive [2] employment, which provides a positive social and environmental impact and is set in a climate of professional training, innovation and entrepreneurship, Brazil should work, by 2020, to prioritize:

  • striving to eradicate child labor and forced or compulsory labor.
  • seeking to eliminate discrimination in all its forms, in relation to young people, women and older professional, ensuring diversity, income equality (especially for women), opportunities and training, and recognition of performance in the workplace and preparation to receive them.
  • substantially increasing technical and professional training for the national workforce.
  • strengthening new forms of labor relations that favor a better work-life balance and quality of life.

 

[1] According to the ILT, Decent Employment is the point of convergence of the four strategic objectives of the ILT: respect for labor rights (especially those defined as fundamental by the Declaration on the Rights and Fundamental Principles of Labor and amendments to it, adopted in 1998: (i) freedom to join a trade union and recognition of the effective right to collective bargaining; (ii) elimination of all forms of forced labor; (iii) effective abolition of child labor; (iv) elimination of all forms of discrimination regarding employment and occupation), the promotion of productive and good quality employment, the extension of social security and the strengthening of social dialogue.

[2] The concept of dignified employment (1) covers the aspirations of human beings in their professional life and includes various elements: opportunities to carry out productive work with fair remuneration; safety in the workplace and social protection for families; better prospects for personal development and social integration; freedom to express concerns; organization and participation in decisions affecting one’s own life; and equality of opportunity and treatment for all women and men.

Education and Empowerment of Society

All the must-haves stress the importance of the role of the education and empowerment of society. Various social actors should be involved and work to ensure that the environmental, social and economic issues prioritized by the Must Haves generate understanding and support among the Brazilian population. Employment and Training seeks in particular to develop professional training initiatives, technical training and education for entrepreneurship.
